Whitney Port admitted she had substantial credit card debt when she got engaged to now-husband Tim Rosenman — but he had no idea.
“When I got engaged, I remember having, like, a $35,000 credit card bill,” the “Hills” alum confessed during Wednesday’s episode of Nicole Lapin’s “Money Rehab” podcast.
“I had known about it for a while and I was letting it rack up and was just paying, essentially, the interest each month.”
Port said the mounting debt felt like a “huge secret” that she was “ashamed of” but knew she had to tell Rosenman the truth about her finances.
“I told him one night, and he was definitely shocked but he was like, ‘We’ll figure it out,’” Port recalled.
“I remember at the time, luckily, being able to pay it off quickly.”
Port, 38, explained that even though she had started earning money from her work in reality TV, she hadn’t learned how to save her money.
“I spent a lot, and I think that that became this behavior of mine that I’ve tried to quell as I’ve gotten older,” she said.

Rosenman and the former “City” star have gotten through numerous stressors in their marriage, including fertility issues and the MTV alum’s worrying weight.
Just last month, Port, who has suffered a couple of miscarriages since welcoming her first child, Sonny, revealed the pair’s surrogate miscarried twice.
“Now we’re thinking that there might be something going on, either with the surrogate or with our embryos,” Rosenman, 46, shared on “With Whit.”
As for the pair’s plan to move forward on their journey for a second child, Port explained they will “put in one of the embryos that’s already made in the surrogate right now and … get that going while we make a plan to do another egg retrieval.”
Rosenman and Port have been married since November 2015 and welcomed Sonny nearly two years later.
