Fans point out the ironic name of Meghan Markle’s dress during Nigeria trip: ‘Doing this on purpose’

She’s keeping it in the family.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry kicked off their trip to Nigeria on Friday with a school visit, but it wasn’t just their sweet interactions with students that got social media talking.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, looked incredible in a backless peach maxi dress by Heidi Merrick — and coincidentally (or not), the style’s name is called the “Windsor.”

Markle wore the aptly-named dress with a gold chain necklace and a longer wooden bead necklace that coordinated with the one Prince Harry was presented with during their visit.

She wore her hair twisted back in a low ponytail to show off her vintage gold Lanvin button earrings, wearing minimal makeup with her glowing look.

With her peach maxi hailing from the designer’s 2018 collection, Markle — who also wore a Heidi Merrick design to a recent polo match —  likely purchased the piece either just before or after she married Prince Harry in May of that year.

However, fans couldn’t help but note the irony of the duchess — who left royal life and her home on the Windsor Castle estate in 2020 — rocking a dress with the Windsor name in 2024.

“But they have been trying to erase the Windsors from their lives completely, but here comes Mrs. Sussex wearing a dress called ‘Windsor’, haha!!” one X (formerly known as Twitter) user wrote, in part.

“Im convinced she is doing this on purpose at this point. Infamy is her goal – not approval. She is taking a page out of Wallis’s handbook,” another person tweeted.

“Did she really choose a dress called the Windsor Dress, or are you being cheeky for fun?” another fan commented on an X post, with the original user replying, “I am dead serious.”

“Done as a snub. DEFINITELY” another royal fan added.

The barbs may be coming from both directions as Buckingham Palace recently promoted their own strawberry preserves shortly after Markle announced her first product of her American Riviera Orchard line would be a line of jam.

As for the Duke of Sussex, 39 — who wore a casual linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up for their school trip — he returned to London with no Windsors in sight this week.

Neither Prince William nor King Charles III met up with Prince Harry while he was in the UK to carry out several events celebrating the 10th anniversary of his Invictus Games.

There were plenty of Spencers on hand, however, when Prince Harry embraced Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, and sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, during an event at St. Paul’s Cathedral, with several of his cousins from his mother’s side also in attendance.
